Haiti - Tourism : Haiti enters in the global Tourism Competitiveness ranking
For the first time in its history, Haiti enters in the global Tourism Competitiveness ranking according to the latest global rankings on tourism competitiveness published on 20 March by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in partnership with the "Group Croissance" Although Haiti is at the 140th and last position of this study, but it should be remembered as points out the economist Kesner Pharel, CEO of Groupe croissance "Of 230 countries around the world, only 140 are ranked whose Haiti. In the Caribbean, only 27 countries meet the criteria of the WEF and Haiti is part of them."

"This is good news th Haiti will be listed and that we recognize the country as a tourist destination," declared last Wednesday, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, during a press conference at the local Ministry in the presence of Pierre Chauvet Fil, President of the Tourism Association of Haiti (ATH) and economist Kesner Pharel "This is the first time that our country appears in this prestigious ranking and we are aware that we still have a long way to go. At this time, we can hardly compare Haiti with our Caribbean neighbors. The Dominican Republic has 60,000 hotel rooms, Haiti has only 3000... We can do better. And we will do better !" affirmed confidently, the Minister Villedrouin.

"This ranking ultimately testify today that the tourism sector in Haiti, resumes its momentum. We are currently working according to parameters taken into account by the World Economic Forum," clarified Stéphanie Villedrouin, citing some progress made so far in the tourism sector "Construction of airports in Cap-Haïtien and Les Cayes, the establishment of standards and quality to better regulate the sector, the existence of a vacation package on Haiti, the opening of others hotel schools in the country and the private investment of major hotel chains indicates Haiti moves in the field [...] I am confident that next year, haiti will be positioned in a better place [...]"

The President of the ATH stressed "We must, both at the level of private sector of tourism than the general population, combining our actions to get a better position [...] We have a political will to make the tourism sector a positive asset," insisting that each sector plays its role in order to achieve better performance, adding that "the fact of being a touristic competitor in this selection of country is a consideration that needs to be analyzed coldly and uncompromising [...] This is already a step in the right direction. Haiti is recognized as a tourist destination. But we must not hide the fact that the way to go to achieve a better ranking is still long [...]" stating that as long as all economic agents and citizens, will not put the hands on, the dynamism of the Ministry of Tourism alone remain insufficient.
