Haiti - Economy : The Prime Minister calls for the vote of the bill against corruption 07/02/2014 11:48:36 During these discussions, the Prime Minister who has requested the benefit of emergency within the framework of vote on this bill, reiterated the urgent need to establish republican institutions of a new legislation allowing the government and state bodies including the Control Unit against Corruption (ULCC), the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), the central Financial Intelligence Unit (UCREF) to dispose of legal means to fight against corruption and tax evasion... He also recalled that this bill was the affirmation of the will of the administration Martelly and his Government to give the country a legal framework with deterrent and repressive effects that will help legal and financial institutions to repatriate funds and state property misappropriated. Note that this bill will allow the Haitian government to seize, freeze the funds and assets of fraudsters to the benefit of Treasury. This Bill is also a guarantee of safety and protection for foreign investors wishing to settle in Haiti. Note that since the accession to power of President Martelly, significant progress has been made in the fight against corruption. The results were welcomed by the Heritage Foundation. In two years, Haiti has gained 12 places from 175th place (in 2010) to the 163rd (in 2013) out of 177 countries in the ranking in the index of perception of corruption prepared by Transparency International.
