Haiti - Politic : The Government deploys great means on Turtle Island

As part of a larger project to improve the living conditions of the people of Turtle Island (Île de la Tortue), on the instruction of the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, the Director of Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), Klaus Eberwein, developed a special emergency plan to meet in the short, medium and long term the needs of the local population.

This Plan includes a number of actions designed to contribute to immediate change in the economic situation of the commune and living conditions of the most vulnerable people.

Social Assistance :
In order to meet increased demand for basic products, this special plan will strengthen during the next semester, the distribution of food through the program "Panye Solidarite". The plan also intends to double the number of beneficiaries of social programs such "Kredi Fanm Lakay", "Kore Moun Andikape", "Ti Manman Cheri" that are already available on the island.

500 famlily mothers additional will integrate the "Ti manman cherie" program ;
7 community restaurants will be built;
2 community shops will open for sale at low price of rice "Riz10/10";
40,000 "panye solidarite" will be distributed;
10,000 emergency vouchers will be distributed to the most needy.

Local economy :
1,000 new jobs will be created from a wide sanitation program (campaign of "latrinisation" among others)
200 business women receive a credit program to stimulate economic activities;
Concrete actions will be undertaken to develop the tourism potential of the Turtle Island for the benefit of its inhabitants. The Minister of Tourism is in talks with Carnival Cruise.

In the perspective of developing agriculture on the Turtle Island, the plan will appeal to a wide range of experienced agronomists who will accompany farmers who will receive free of charge :

2,000 agricultural seed kits;
1,000 fisheries kits;
1,000 goats.

Infrastructure Construction :
A public square in Marouge on Turtle Island;
A public square in Marouge on Ile-de-La-Tortue;
A playground for the youth;
2 hill lakes;
2 cassaveries;
2 processing units (peanuts and guava);
Construction of several sections of roads that will connect different localities.

Education :
In the field of education, number of children regularly enrolled Universal Schooling Program Free and Compulsory (PSUGO) will be doubled;
Nearly 2,000 children will also have access to "National School Feeding Programme" (PNCS);
5 scholarships of excellence will be awarded to graduates;
10,000 adults will be literate.
