Haiti - Social : Evenings «Cultur'Elles-au Féminin», a look beyond the disability
"The Association of Girls and Women in the Sun" (AFAS) wants to put under the spotlight the talent of female artists with disabilities through the evenings "Cultur'Elles-au Féminin", whose the launch is scheduled on March 29.

These evenings which will be held every last Saturday of the month from March to December will put on stage the members of this association, offering to the population the opportunity to discover and appreciate the talents of the participants [including theater, dance, sport, singing, music...] "The activity will contribute to the empowerment and advancement of women with disabilities, specifically members of our association [...]," stressed Michaëlle Louis, Project Manager within the AFAS.

Meanwhile, the Association is seeking the support of other bodies, including the Office of the Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry for the Status and Rights of Women, to guarantee that the activities that encourage practices related to culture, reflect the respect and protection of women and people with special needs.

Between shows, the participants will be trained over a period of 10 months to to perfect their artistic abilities. This training is a call of the organizers, who strongly hope that follow will be made so that at the end of the project, participants are guided and supported according to their abilities and receive scholarships at all levels ; that a sociocultural psychology and sports center is built and equipped for the welfare of disabled artists in Haiti, especially girls and women.

According to officials, the implementation of the project of the evening "Cultur'Elles-au féminin" will increase the number of women trained in the Haitian cultural and artistic environment and will prove in particular the meaning of leadership of women with disabilities.

The Association of Girls and Women in the Sun brings together women and girls with disabilities, regardless of their age or their area of daily activities. Founded July 14, 2008, this social grouping, proposes to make heardthe voice of women with disabilities and enable them to enjoy their rights and know their duties as full citizens. AFAS, with the support of BSEIPH, of some organizations of disabled people, private companies, national and international organizations, has already carried out several activities to popularize the capacity of its members and women with disabilities in general whose a beauty contest and intelligence Miss Filles au Soleil" which is in its sixth edition.
