Haiti - Politic : Bahamas Delegation in Haiti

Wednesday, Fred Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas, at the head of a delegation composed of the Minister of State for National Security, Senator Keith Bell, Commodore of the "Royal Bahamas Defence Force" Roderick Bowe and the Foreign Service Officer Wilfred Adderley, arrived in Haiti in the context of bilateral talks to discuss migration issues, people smuggling, trade and agricultural cooperation.

Godfrey Rolle, Bahamas Ambassador to Haiti joined the delegation, which plans to meet among others, during his stay, the Chancellor Pierre Richard Casimir, the Minister of the Interior David Basile and the acting minister of Trade and industry, Wilson Laleau.

In a statement, the Government of Bahamas indicates that after the controversial decision of the judgment 168-13 of the Dominican Constitutional Tribunal (TC), he took the opportunity of this visit to express his own concerns on issues of illegal immigration in his country from Haiti.

In addition, on the commercial terms, Chancellor Mitchell, stressed that Haiti needed phytosanitary protocols in line with international standards to increase agricultural product trade between the two countries. The Bahamas currently imports plantains and mangoes grown in Haiti through the United States "because of the absence of phytosanitary measures in Haiti," said the Bahamian government.

The delegation will leave Haiti on Friday.
