Thursday at the Primature, was held a meeting on migration issues, co-chaired by Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of the Bahamas, Fred Mitchell, in the presence of Me Jean Renel Sanon, Minister of Justice and Lucien Francoeur, Secretary General of the Office of the Prime Minister for Haiti and Senator eith Bell, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security in The Bahamas.

Following this meeting the parties agreed :

• Implementing the use of Public Relations and Education campaigns to dissuade persons desiring to migrate to The Bahamas;

• Establishing a Consulate in the Northern Part of Haiti;

• Facilitating Cooperation between the two Countries in the area of Law Enforcement to fight against organisers of illegal migration; and

• Encouraging Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Governments of the two Countries as a means to stem the flow of persons seeking to migrate illegally;

Moreover, the two governments have pledged to work to conclude bilateral agreements pending, within 60 days.
