Haiti - Environment : Donation of equipment and materials for waste collection in Ouanaminthe
Thursday, the international aid organization Welthungerhilfe / German Agro Action, the city of Ouanaminthe and the European Union, have made with local partners in the delivery of several equipment and materials for the collection of solid waste in the city of Ouanaminthe .

This transfer of material that falls within the framework of the project "Capacity building of the communal administration and local structures for sustainable and equitable access of the population of the city of Ouanaminthe to sanitation services" is funded to up to 950,000 euros by the European Union, through the Office of the National Authorising Officer of the European Development Fund (EDF) over two years, by German Agro Action aims to improve the sanitary conditions of the city.

This initiative which is part of the Commune Development Plan of Ouanaminthe, allow to meet the basic needs of thedisadvantaged people of the city in term of sanitation through capacity building of municipal staff and the implementation of a sustainable system of garbage collection for the benefit of the population.

"By strengthening the competences of the municipal administration and the local structures, German Agro Action ensures that these equipments will contribute on the one hand to improve the sanitary conditions of the city of Ouanaminthe and secondly to the growth and stabilization of their income. This project will allow about 75,000 people to have sustainable access to basic sanitation services," said Eberhard Hauser, the site manager of German Agro Action in the North East.

For his part, Javier Nino Pérez, Ambassador of the European Union in Haiti declared "The city of Ouanaminthe is the largest urban center on the Haitian-Dominican border line. This initiative therefore meet the basic needs of the population of this important region of the country in term of sanitation, helping to establish an environment and a cleaner and healthier quality of life, which is an important asset in development."
