Haiti - Social : Drought in the north, accompanying measures

Friday, the executive team of Social Welfare of the Government, met around the urgent measures to accompany the population to cope with the situation in the northern department after the drought period that had caused crop losses in this region and reflect on lasting solutions to the climate change that are likely to affect all regions of the country.

Within the responses already provided by the Government, over 9,400 mothers, registered in the cash transfer component of the "Ede Pèp" program currently receive two months allowance. Through this program, more than 9 million Gourdes have been distributed the previous week, in 9 communes in the Northern Department.

In addition, over the next 3 months, the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) will distribute 10,000 "Panye Solidarite" in teh communes affected by drought and 5,000 kits of seeds in the most affected communes.

A technical mission of the National Coordination for Food Security (CNSA) and the National Centre for Geo-Spatial Information (CNIGS) will be dispatched to the North, to assess the situation.
