Haiti - Politic : The Core Group takes note of the establishment of the CEP...
Sandra Honoré, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the other members of the international community in Haiti represented in the "Core Group" (the Ambassadors of Brazil, Spain, the United States of America, France and the European Union, the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Canada, and the Special Representative of the Organization of American States) take note of the fact that via a presidential order issued on 6 May 2014, the President of the Republic established the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11084-haiti-flash-new-cep-president-martelly-publishes-the-names.html

Following the establishment of the CEP and the address to the nation by the President of the Republic on 6 May https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11091-haiti-politic-message-to-the-nation-of-president-michel-martelly.html , the Core Group notes that the electoral process has been launched. "It is now incumbent upon Haitian political actors, at all levels, to take all the necessary measures in order to advance towards the organization of the partial legislative, municipal and local elections at the latest by 26 October 2014."

Underscoring the importance of continuing the dialogue process among all stakeholders "in order to build mutual trust and ensure that transparent and inclusive elections are held in 2014."

In this regard, the Core Group, "strongly hopes that the Executive and Legislative branches will reach a consensus. The inability to hold elections this year could lead to the dissolution of Parliament in January 2015, an outcome that Haiti’s partners refuse to contemplate. The members of the Core Group reiterate their support to the electoral process in its financial, technical, logistical and security aspects."
