Haiti - Politic : The Haitian government finally takes action in DR
As part of the launch of Project of Identification and Documentation to the Immigrant Haitians (PIDIH), François Guillaume II, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) s visiting the Dominican Republic June 23 to 26, 2014. During this visit he will meet various Dominican authorities, Haitian organizations and different batteys of the areain order to make a better assessment of the situation of the Haitian diaspora in the Dominican Republic as a prelude to the launch of the project.

Ambassador Cineas and the Minister Guillaume II, met Jose Ramon Fadul, the Minister of Interior and Police, José Ricardo Taveras, the Director of Immigration and Henry Molina, Deputy Minister to whom he exposed the program.

Tuesday, after a meeting with representatives of the Haitian community in the country to whom they explained the plan, Fritz Cinéas and François Guillaume press conference ensured that in less than a month, PIDIH would be launched to provide a birth certificate, passport and identity card to its citizens residing in the Dominican Republic at a cost 2,500 pesos (± 58 U.S. dollars) per adult (150 pesos for children). They also said that the Haitian Government had not received any financial assistance from Venezuela or the Organization of American States (OAS), and that the $ 10 million needed for this program come from the Haitian public treasury.

According to the Minister of MHAVE, the program will be implemented in all Haitian consulates around the country, but it will begin to Santo Domingo and Barahona, before expanding to other provinces. It is estimated that nearly 300,000 Haitians in an irregular situation in neighboring Republic will benefit from this program.
