Argentina - Switzerland [1-0]: Argentina qualified

At the Arena Corinthians, Argentina had to wait the extra time against a solid formation Switzerland in defense and explosive in attack to qualify "in extremis" for the quarter-finals.

Argentines were being pushed around in a first period perfectly controlled by the Swiss despite their low ball possession (39%). However, after the break, much more dominant and enterprising Argentinean reversed the situation while clashing to a solid defense Helvetian. The Swiss have recovered in an overtime period to the unbearable suspense, before bowing to 118' with a shot from A. Di Maria of flat left foot, which opens the score [1-0] and propels Argentina in quarter-finals.

The valiant formation Switzerland leaves this World Cup the head high.

Belgium - USA [2-1 ap]: Belgium qualified

In Salvador, Belgium dominating in this match, shaken the U.S., but has long been met with an excellent defense. Unable to decide, despite multiple attempts the both teams had to go through the extension where Belgium finally win against the United States [2-1] and has qualified for the quarter-finals.

Announced as the most open match, this duel of outsiders offered a lot of spectacular, especially from the Belgian formation (31 shots with 11 on target), only the goals missed during regular time... The Belgians exerted constant pressure on the U.S. but failed to overcome their very compact defense.

If the first period was quite unbridled and open, summarizing to attacks defenses between the two teams, the second period was clearly in favor of the Belgian who, despite their many shots, corners and centers have not managed to find the opportunity before the 93' where Belgium opened the scoring [1-0] thanks to a shot from Romelu Lukaku. Two minutes later to the 107' J.Green reduced the score [2-1] following a recovery on the fly of the right foot, but it is too late for the U.S. to avoid elimination. Belgium qualifies face a valiant American team, collectivebut sometimes fickle.
