On behalf of the Government and people of Haiti, the Head of State reiterated its sincere condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, friends and supporters of the Rally of Progressive National Democrats (RDNP).

Speeches of the Head of State for the State funeral of Professor Leslie François Manigat :

"Mrs. Mirlande Manigat
Family members
Members and supporters of RDNP
Representatives of the three powers,
Friends and allies
All of you here to pay a final tribute to Prof. Leslie Manigat,

We are here today to honor one of the brightest son that our land has produced.

It is with great humility and respect that I stand before the remains of Professor, President, Leader, Founder of RNDP Lesly François Saint Roc Manigat to reiterate my sincere condolences to his widow, Mrs. Mirlande Manigat, his daughters Sabine, Roberte, Viviane, Monique Marie and Beatrice, to the bereaved family, friends and allies, sympathizers of RDNP.

To you, Mrs. Manigat, his traveling companion, I once again present my deepest sympathies for having shared the life of a professor for over 44 years. This takes to us all, the pretensions to decline the many facets of this multifaceted man who marked our contemporary history, that's why I will not yield to the whims of the protocol
today, as it belong to Mrs. Manigat to be the last to speak to the Professor.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I'm here today, above all, as a citizen of this country, the country we all love of a crazy and unconditional love, this country which saw the birth of this humanist, this giant, this world heritage that was Lesly Francois Manigat, to pay tribute to this man. A man who professed with rigor, faith in his country and devoted his life to the education of youth.

Indeed, Professor Manigat has trained many generations of illustrious names, here and elsewhere. Names that have marked the progress of the world. It is certainly one of those men sometimes misunderstood because of their rigid and strict beliefs, but that we finally agreed because they also show their faith in the future of humanity.

The country has lost a true Haitian !
The country lost one of these models in the process of disappearance !
The country has lost a great man !

Even in his death, Professor Manigat mark the history of our country, as around his body, it unites all trends and affiliations. In doing so, we send a clear message, unambiguous: the country needs all its children.

It is now to continue the Manigat ideal, the ideal of unity, the ideal of excellence !

It will be, in my opinion, the best tribute we can pay him. This is our responsibility.

The value of a mandoes not lie in its ability to measure to another, but in its ability to recognize that despite all the differences, human ties that bind us are stronger and surpass all !

Accept it as a fact and practice it, is to show wisdom and maturity !

History will judge us on our ability to ignore our differences, and find ourselves as worthy heirs of those who went before us... Of those who wrote in the letter indelible the history of our country, such a Anténor Firmin, a Jean Price Mars, an Emile St Lot, a Lesly François Saint Roc Manigat !

'The dead are invisible, they are not absent' said Saint Augustine

Great men do not leave us. Great men never go. Their immortal souls transcend time, their minds long illuminate the path for future generations and serve them as guide.

Profesè Manigat se yon nan pi bèl tèt kepeyi nou an janm konnen!

Li te gen yon vizyon pou peyi a. Li pote non peyi Dayiti rive byen lwen.

Li fòme anpil generation ki jodia ap sèvi peyi a.

jenerasyon ki gen pou vini yo, gen pou jijé nou sou kapasite nou, kapasite pou nou bliye differans ideoljik nou, kapasite pou nou bliye apatenans nou, pou nou rasanble an frè ak sè, a chak fwa peyi a bezwen sa; kapasite nou genyen pou nou rekonèt valè lòt la, akspete tande l, menm si nou padakò avè l.

Lanmò Prof Manigat ap kite yon gran vid andedan klas politik la, nan lavi entelektuel peyi nou an.

Nou koube nou byen ba devan depa sa-a e nou nou salye fanmi ak zanmi ki pataje doulè sa-a.

Ke Bondieu rekonfòte nou! Ke bondie akompanye li nan denye kay li

Dear President, Mr. Professor
I bow out ! Chapeau Bas !
May the earth rest lightly on you !"
