Haiti - Politic : EDH announces measures to improve its performance
Jean Érrol Morose, Director General of Electricity of Haiti (EDH), announced Wednesday at the 36th Council of Government, a set of measures to improve the production capacity and distribution of electrical energy, increase revenue and provide a quality service to the public.

He announced that the Government will accelerate to this purpose, the repair of the hydroelectric power station of Péligre and the Simon Bolivar plant of Carrefour, which will allow to provide respectively 54 and 40 megawatts on the network of EDH and on the other hand, the gradual replacement of old meters 110 volts was underway, adding that the company had a stock of 60,000 meters 220 volts and 30,000 meters 110 volts to meet the new demands.

In addition, the Director Morose called the population to support its efforts to combat illegal catches [200 million gourdes monthly losses] in order to avoid overload and damage to transformers placed by EDH on the urban centers [80 damaged transformers were already replaced on the 500 counted].

Jean Érrol Morose reported a net increase in billing and collection rates, hence some stabilization in the rate of loss. To maintain these positive results, the Director General invites customers to pay their bills. Note the exception of Haiti of Saint-Louis du Nord where the recovery rate is 100% !

He also announced that the Ministry of Finance had made arrangements to help EDH to better manage its covering base. These measures consist in withhold arrears and the debts invoices from institutions. As ministries, an agreement will be concluded for the withholding of the amount of bills and arrears from their budget.

He announced the holding shortly, of a large meeting of experts on the problems of electric power in order to find viable solutions to the problems faced by EDH. Already, Jean Érrol Morose calls for reducing the dependence of the company in terms of production vis-à-vis private companies that increase the losses recorded by EDH. In fact, over 85% of the energy distributed in the metropolitan area come from the private sector who sells around 40 cents per Kw, while EDH is obliged to sell at 16 cents or in the best case, 31 cents.

Finally, radio-frequency meter remote readable by "smartphones" are installed in industries and soon, the customers of the EDH will be able to check their bill from their mobile phone by dialing 775*+Meter number*+send. This service will allow the subscriber to pay his bill in offices SogeXpress either in cash or by check.
