Haiti - Politic : 12 days of hunger strike of Deputy Bélizaire 01/08/2014 13:17:53
A strike that seems to leave in the indifference most of his colleagues who are not in opposition and so far no one has made any effort to meet the demands of the parliamentary (including the release of political prisoners and dismissal of the President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ)). What to know about of hunger strike : You should know that during the first 10 days, a hunger striker, usually feels "good" if he have a sufficient supply of water. He has a rapid weight loss (loss of water and salt) and its movements are normal. Between the 10th day and the 30th day, the person begins to feel ill, weight loss continues at a slower rate (melting fat). There is a decrease in muscle strength, dizziness and headache, concentration difficulties, increasing fatigue, muscle aches and talk gradually becomes very tiring. After 1 month, the person will feel downright sick, loss of hunger and thirst, apathy scarce movement, nausea, vomiting with a slow and shallow breathing. Appear slurred speech and communication, hearing loss and visual acuity. It was at this stage that usually occurs complications, although they may occur earlier due to health history of the striker. Then we enter the final phase in a variable delay, depending on the state of health of the person, at this stage, everything evolves very quickly, usually in a few hours : major confusion and significant mood changes, coma and then death. Few studies is on hunger strike but examples scenarios have shown that death could occur between 60 and 90 days after initiation of fast total. In case of late stop, the organism can need several months to recover and sometimes with permanent consequences.
