Haiti - Elections : The CEP wants elections by the end of the year, if possible...

Following the meeting last Friday https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11798-haiti-elections-the-cep-confirms-that-there-will-be-no-elections-october-26-2014.html

between the 9 members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), the President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe on the feasibility of the elections on the scheduled date of October 26, CEP sent in date of August 11, a letter to the Chief State informing him of the inability to meet this deadline.

"The Provisional Electoral Council established May 6, 2014, following the agreement of El Rancho, is charged with the mission to organize elections for two-thirds of the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies and the Local Authorities to the deate of 26th October 2014.

The outcome of this mission requires the necessary legal tool through the Electoral Law amended, is available approximately five (5) to six (6) months before the election date.

The Provisional Electoral Council notes the absence to date of this final legal instrument within three (3) months of the date set for the vote.

Under these conditions, the CEP considers it impossible to attain these elections within the time limit set by the Presidential Order dated June 10, 2014 convening the people in its comitia.

Also, to better define the course of its action for the organization of credible elections as soon as possible, if possible by the end of 2014, the Provisional Electoral Council asks you, Mr. President, that you decide on the issue with the parties and stakeholders concerned with the progress of the electoral process. This, to allow the CEP to have an updated legal framework.

This letter was signed by the President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Treasurer and four members of the CEP, with the exception of former treasurer Pierre Simon George, recently revoked https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11760-haiti-politic-the-treasurer-of-the-cep-dismissed.html
