Following the formal request from Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras, asking the head of state to meet the 6 opposition senators, the President Martelly had accepted the proposal and invited the President of the Senate and the 6 senators of G6, to come dialogue to his office at the National Palace, Monday, September 1 in order to find a consensus on the amendment of the electoral law The meeting, which was intended to be an open dialogue, though cordial, was not able to make progress in the absence of opposition senators, deplored by President Martelly and the President of the National Assembly, Senator Desras, the only one to have responded to the invitation of the Head of State. The senators of G6 refused to attend, saying on the one hand, that the National Palace was not a neutral place conducive to negotiations and on the other hand, they had to meet before (Tuesday) the 6 opposition parties [Fanmi lavalas, Fusion, Inite, Kontra pèp la, Ayisyen pou Ayiti and MOPOD] in order to define the agenda, to be discussed with President Martelly including a roadmap for the formation of a Provisional Electoral Council in the spirit of Article 289 of the Constitution. A challenging doomed to failure, given the changes already made to the CEP, in accordance with El Rancho Agreement signed by the 3 powers.
