Haiti - Politic : Michaëlle Jean very active in New York

Saturday, Michaëlle Jean, the UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti (his native country), Candidate for Secretary General of the International Francophone Organisation (OIF) concluded a four-day visit to New York where she met with a dozen heads of state and government, as well as several foreign ministers of member countries of the Francophonie and participated in various activities on the margins of the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations.

At the General Assembly of the UN, she also exchanged with the Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki-Moon, in addition to attending the speech of the American President, Barack Obama, the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper and of President Michel Martelly.

Moreover, Michaëlle Jean took advantage of her visit to New York to participate in several activities organized on the sidelines of the General Assembly. In addition to taking part in the meeting of foreign donors for the reconstruction of Haiti, she attended the meeting of the Global Initiative of the Secretary General of the UN for education, as well as an event in the framework of the initiative of the United Nations "Every Woman Every Child". Michaëlle Jean also spoke as a guest of honor at a roundtable on economic Francophonie, chaired by Christian Paradis, Canada's Minister of International Development and Minister for La Francophonie.

"Our world is facing many challenges, both in terms of security, stability, development, education or health, such as the outbreak of the Ebola virus reminds us. Solidarity and cooperation among the countries of the Francophonie can provide concrete solutions to these challenges. Together we can show what can be achieved when all the wills are gathered," said Ms. Jean.

Recall that the candidacy of Michaëlle Jean on the OIF is officially supported by the governments of Canada, Quebec, New Brunswick and Haiti.
