Haiti - Agriculture : $27M for the production of bananas for export
Friday, President Michel Martelly, accompanied by Wilson Laleau, Minister of Commerce and Industry, proceeded in the commune of Trou-du-Nord, to the planting of the first seedlings of organic bananas as part of the launch of Agritrans Project.

This project, which brings together over 3,000 farmers from different associations, aims the production of organic bananas for export. 2 million seedlings will be planted over a thousand hectares, as part of this initiative.

To achieve its objectives, the FEPA/Agritrans consortium has modern agricultural equipment, pumps for irrigation, an artificial lake with a capacity of 700.000 gallons and plans to create about 3,000 jobs.

The Government, through the Industrial Development Fund (IDF), made available $6M o the developer of this innovative and ambitious project, whose total cost is $27M. In order to enable Agritrans SA to strengthen, 15 million in additional funding will be advanced to it.



Jovenel Moise, principal responsible for this significant enterprise, was full of praise for the Martelly Administration that allowed him to realize his "dream", ten years old.

President Martelly announced that the first containers of organic bananas, will leave the commune of Trou-du-Nord by the month of July 2015 in the direction of Europe and the Caribbean among others.
