Haiti - Politic : The Dominican authorities regulate the first Haitian

Friday, a little more than four months after the opening of the regularization of foreigners living illegally in the Dominican Republic, the government has begun to deliver the first residence permit to 73 citizens of 14 nationalities, including 49 Haitians, including 57 men and 16 women.

Luis Fernández, Vice Minister of the Interior and Police indicated that this permit will be valid for 2 years declaring "We delivered these documents today to 49 citizens of Haiti, 5 of Cuba, 4 of the United States, 3 of Colombia, 2 of Argentina and 2 of Mexico. 8 citizens of China, Ecuador, Peru, Russia, Austria, Bolivia, Guatemala and Italy were also beneficiaries of a permit."

"From now, we will deliver these documents regularly, not only in the National District, but in all the provinces. The documents will be delivered in the same place where the person has applied, for example, if someone has applied to La Romana, you must pick up your permit at the Romana," said the official.

According to Dominican authorities, more than 120,000 Haitian immigrants have enrolled in the regulation plan, which began June 2. Among them, fewer than 75,000 hold certain identification documents issued by the Haitian government, but fewer than 500 applicants meet so far with all the requirement...

Recall that according to the Dominican estimates, the plan aims to regularize the immigration status of about 500,000 Haitians and 60,000 other foreigners of various nationalities.

Jose Ramon Fadul, stated that all people living illegally in the Dominican Republic, who will not have obtained their residence permit at the end of May 2015, will be deported to their respective countries.
