Haiti - Politic : Two members of FOPARC arrested

Sunday, responding to the call of the groupings of political opposition parties, including the "Patriotic Movement of the Democratic Opposition" (MOPOD), the "Patriotic Force for the Respect of the Constitution" (FOPARC) and popular organizations close to Fanmi Lavalas, the opposition once again took the streets.

Left from the city center, the crowd of protesters, under heavy police escort, waving flags, chanting about hostile to the government, that they ccuse of being responsible for the country's woes, demanding the resignation of President Martelly and the departure of his team have traveled several neighborhoods of the capital. In addition, opposition demonstrators accused the Provisional Electoral Council not be able to organize the elections, a situation to say the least ironic, since for almost eight months the opposition senators refused to ratify the electoral law, allowing the CEP to be able to function within a legal framework...

The protesters went, for once in Petion-ville, where riot police guarding the hotels, shops and the office of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

Rony Timothée, spokesperson and the activist iron Odigé both of the have been arrested by the police. Reportedly, the two activists were subject to a warrant, following complaints from citizens whose vehicles were vandalized during the demonstration on 17 October. Both opponents after a short stop at the police station of Petionville, were taken to that of Carrefour. They would be charged with incitement to violence and disrupting public order.

For Me Jean Simon Saint-Hubert, one of the lawyers of Rony Timothée, the Martelly-Lamothe administration has no right to hold accountable the event organizers for the excesses of the protesters...

Prevented from reaching the offices of the Electoral Council in Petion-ville, despite the arrest of two militants of FOPARK the crowd of protesters continued his route in Petion-ville before returning to Downtown by Bourdon Road, until the Champ-de-Mars before being dispersed by police, who used tear gas and water cannon, while the protesters had decided to extend the route originally authorized, in the direction of Carrefour to demand the release of two members of FOPARK.
