Haiti - Economy : Important meeting on bilateral trade

The Ministries of Industry and Commerce of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, held on 5 and 6 November a dialogue on bilateral trade, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12445-haiti-economy-important-trade-mission-in-dominican-republic.html in the presence, among others, of representatives of the European Union, the United Nations Programme for Development (UNDP), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH) and Haitian and Dominican entrepreneurs in the sectors : poultry, textile and industrial.

Thursday, when reading the joint statement Wilson Laleau, he Minister of Trade and Industry (MCI), indicated that it was discussed in particular of the trade of alcohol, flour, margarine and soap bar, as well as ground transportation.

For his part, José del Castillo Saviñón, the Dominican Minister of Industry and Commerce, tressed that the Dominican party had addressed the trade of poultry products and plastic, which are under ban since 2013 and the cigarette trade, industry affected by smuggling from Haiti. Adding that "commitments have been made in order to provide a fluid communication channel between sectors, with the objective of achieving over time, mutual and balanced trade between the two countries."

The joint declaration also states that "Caribbean Export" conducting a study sponsored by the European Union on technical barriers to bilateral trade.

The details of this meeting will be presented at the next high-level bilateral dialogue, held in the Dominican Republic at a date that has not yet been set.
