Haiti - Health : Success of school mobile clinics 14/11/2014 09:29:57 After over a month of operation, the pilot project, which seeks to provide preventive and curative health care to 80% of school children from the first to the sixth year of fundamental in marginal areas, shows good results. Thus, 5,685 children (2,817 girls and 2,868 boys) received health care in 25 schools across the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince September-October 2014. 14.49% of children were supported for various diseases such as ringworm (287 cases), dermato-mycoses (106 cases), anemia (17 cases), flu syndrome (216 cases), intestinal parasites (85 cases), tonsillitis (21 cases) and 92 children had other health problems. Also note that decisions of reference were taken for 761 children, or 13.39%, which showed visual and oral problems. The provision of preventive care was prioritized during mobile clinics where 100% of children 3-14 years received health education session and deworming and 416 children 3 to 7 years received Vitamin A. These bus offers services of : General Consultations (clinical examination), control sight, hearing and static (back), measures of height and weight, checking vaccinations, screening for learning disabilities (language, writing...), health education and deworming also. Medicines are given free to children, according to the diseases diagnosed and if necessary, the child is referred to other specialists. The project of school mobile clinic, that started in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, intend to spread in major cities and the the most disadvantaged zones of the 10 departments of the country. It is run in partnership with the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training and funded to the tune of US $ 600,000 by the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB). HL/ HaitiLibre
