Haiti - Justice : International Human Rights Day

This Wednesday, the world celebrates the International Human Rights Day on the theme "Human Rights 365". This celebration coincides with the 66th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 December 1948. The theme of this year, reminds States of their obligation to work every day for the protection of human rights.

As part of the International Human Rights Day, he Office of the Minister Delegate (Marie Carmelle Rose Anne Auguste) responsible for human rights and the fight against extreme poverty reminded "This theme translates well the commitment of the Administration Martelly and Lamothe Government to work every day to build a Rule of Law in the country. The fight against inequality and social exclusion, the establishment of mechanisms, such as the signing and ratification of international conventions, protocols and covenants on human rights, demonstrate the willingness of the Administration Martelly and Lamothe government to build this Rule of Law. To these are added the submission of several reports to the United Nations that were outstanding for several years.

At the same time, the Administration Martelly and the Government Lamothe have not ceased to deploy their efforts to improve the image of the country internationally, boost tourism, who had managed to ensure a decent life for hundreds of thousands of Haitians there some forty years and reduce the rate of insecurity that discouraged investment by condemning the country to misery. Measures are also taken to carry out a major reform in justice, to improve the lives of the prisoners despite financial difficulties and solve the problem of prolonged pretrial detention. Civil and political liberties are a reality in the country. Freedom of expression is guaranteed to the point that many abuse of it.

The Government, through the Interministerial Committee for Human Rights (CIDP) is working on the implementation of a National Plan for Human Rights, under development, which aims to ensure to the whole society an essential democratic culture for the building of the rule of law. The policy of openness and dialogue through initiatives such as the "Gouvènman an Lakay ou" program, illustrates the transparency of government and its desire to finally establish in the country a real democracy with the participation of all Haitians. The implementation of these programs reflects the commitment of the Government to guarantee economic and social rights of the population."
