Haiti - Reconstruction : The President Martelly inspected the North Wharf works

Friday, President Michel Martelly, accompanied especially by the Eng. Alix Célestin Director General of the National Port Authority (APN), conducted an inspection visit of reconstruction works of North Wharf of Public installations of the Port of Port-au-Prince, which was destroyed by the earthquake of January 12, 2010.

The realization of this important project, is part of a broader vision that revolves around the redevelopment of three coastal fronts of the Republic of Haiti : North facade West-Artibonite facade and south facade, which will promote the opening up of the country and facilitate trade between the regions and abroad. It is also an upgrade to respect international standards in order to compete regionally and become a strong link in the supply chain of the transport so far dominated by the neighboring Republic. These works also aim to attract the maximum cargo passing off the Haitian coast, promote exports, lower costs of port passage and contribute to the reduction of prices of imported products.

The Head of State, has been able to observes the progress of work carried out meticulously by the Italian-American firm GLF and whose first phase will be inaugurated by May 2015. The engineer Célestin stated that 150 linear meters of quay, built in strict compliance with the international seismic standards, will be operational by that date.

The President Martelly, obviously pleased with the progress of the works, insisted on the importance of such infrastructure for the national economy. According to him the reconstruction of the Port is an important lever for development and participates in its firm commitment to develop the port and maritime sectors.

Note that given the magnitude of the work, guided tours are planned especially for students and local companies working in the field.

In addition, the Head of State also took advantage of his presence at the National Port Authority to participate, alongside the Director-General of the APN, at a distribution of gifts on the institution's yard to several thousand children from the area of the port; Cite Soleil, La Saline, Bas Delmas, Bel'Air, Martissant, etc... in preparation for the Christmas. The ceremony was held in a warm and festive atmosphere with the participation of employees and the institution's management.
