Haiti - Education : Official launch of the «Teacher Card advantage»
Friday at the Karibe Convention Center, Nesmy Manigat, the Minister of Education in the presence of Florence D. Guillaume, the interim Prime Minister, Hoang Van Ngoc, Director General of NATCOM, Marie Carmelle Jean-Marie, Minister of Economy and Finance, departmental directors of the Ministry of Education, technical directors, members of the minister's office, representatives of socio-professional associations working in the field of education and representatives of teachers' Unions (ECNH and UNNOH) has officially launched the "Teacher Card advantage" that provides access to reduced prices for goods and services provided by various public and private companies as well as independent organizations operating in the country.

The "Teacher Card advantage", is a first in Haiti, which is intended to be a strategic tool to improve the status of teachers, target 220,000 agents whose 30,000 public school teachers, 170,000 teachers of private sector and 20,000 directors of schools.

"This card is granted to any holder of the Provisional Teaching Permit (PPE) and the license to teach (PE) and those holding the Institution Identification Card (CIE)" said Denis Cadeau, Director General of Ministry of National Education adding that in the future other categories of educational staff could benefit of it.

For his part, the Minister Manigat explained that "The launch of this card, demonstrates the clear desire of the Ministry to put individuals at the heart of the reconstruction."

NATCOM is the first company to participate in the implementation of the Card by providing advantages to educational staff. Thus, following an agreement signed with the Ministry dated 8 December 2014, the NATCOM offers, among others, 220,000 free SIM cards, credited of an amount of 200 gourdes minutes per month including 100 for internet and 100 for calls and SMS, plus an additional 50 gourdes that will be offered by the Ministry of Education. In addition, the company also announced plans to offer free internet service in schools.

From 27 January 2015 all teachers who completed the form for PPE as well as the Directors of schools, receive special waiver and will be able to visit a branch of the NATCOM to access these privileges using their Tax Identification Number (NIF) or their National Identity Card Card (CIN), while waiting to have their "Teacher Card advantage" and their PPE in hand.

In his remarks of circumstances Gregory Brandt, the representative of the Private Sector Economic Forum expressed the support of the Forum in the process and said expected shortly, that the companies within the Forum will join this initiative by offering similar benefits.

Wanting to avoid any misunderstanding regarding this open market for business, the Minister Maniogat, and Denis Cadeau assured that the Ministry was open to all companies wishing to participate in the "Teacher Card advantage", by offering discounted services to educational staff. This, without any exclusivity.
