Haiti - Diplomacy : Chile concerned about the political situation in Haiti

On Wednesday, the Chilean Government, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed in an official diplomatic note, its concern about the cessation of functions of Parliament https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12934-haiti-politic-it-s-over-the-curtain-fell-on-the-parliament.html and asked Haiti to resume the institutional path and of elections.

"The Government of Chile, in the perceptive to accompany the Haitian process, urges all political actors to achieve what is needed for rebuilding institutions," while recognizing "the role given to the President of the Republic of Haiti (Michel Martelly) in these circumstances, to ensure institutional continuity, democratic governance and the rule of law."

According to the diplomatic note it is "essential that are held elections the legislative, municipal and local elections on hold, as well as the presidential election in a timely manner."

Concluding "The Government of Chile reiterates its commitment to institution building and inclusive development of Haiti and its people, which was manifested in a close bilateral relationship and our participation in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah) since its creation."
