"It is with horror and dismay that I learned this Tuesday, February 17, the tragic accident, which occurred during the carnival parade, which has cost the lives of many people and that caused a lot of wounded in the ensuing panic. I wish through this message, to convey to all Haitian, my solidarity and my deepest sympathy. I extend my condolences to all the families of the victims and their relatives. The Carnival period is every year a highlight of the cultural life in Haiti. This event, which should normally be celebrated as a feast days, will now marked by pain and sadness." Michaëlle Jean, Secretary General of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF).

"I was extremely saddened to learn of the tragic accident that took place on February 17 during the carnival in Port-au-Prince which killed 16 people and injured many others.
