Haiti - Tourism : Inauguration of the Marriott Hotel of Port-au-Prince
Tuesday in Turgeau, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Evans Paul, participated in the presence of members of the Board of Directors of Marriott Hotel Haiti, of Greg Smith, Regional President of Marriott International, Denis O'Brien, CEO of the mobile phone company Digicel, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, of former US President Bill Clinton, the US Ambassador to Haiti, Pamela Ann White, representatives of the Tourism Association of Haiti (ATH) and of the civil society in the inauguration ceremony of the Marriott Hotel Haiti, affiliated with the American hotel chain Marriott International.

The Head of State pointed out that the opening of this hotel infrastructure is important for Haiti, which is in the process of recovering his place on the world tourist map. "I am here this morning to send a strong signal to all those who still hesitate to invest in hotels and tourism in Haiti [...] the efforts of my administration for nearly 4 years, beginning to bear fruit. Denis O'Brien, said the hotel will offer an international standard of service and project the image of a competitive Haitian destination "All along, we’ve said that we were committed to Haiti’s recovery and to delivering on its potential as a great place to invest, and as such, we are thrilled to be opening the doors of the Marriott Port-au-Prince here today [...] We hope that the opening of the hotel will signal that Haiti is truly open for business and is ready to welcome investors and travelers alike," welcoming the partnership between Marriott International and Digicel.

For its part, the Regional President of Marriott International, Greg Smith, said he was proud to see the opening of this hotel in Haiti. He took the opportunity to publicly thank the President Martelly and the Minister of Tourism, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin for their commitment to the realization of this project, and all those who have contributed.

"The opening of the Marriott Port-au-Prince is an important milestone as the people of Haiti work to revitalize and diversify their economy [...] I am grateful to Marriott and Digicel for their commitment to this project, and hope that its success will inspire further investment and opportunity in Haiti," said former US President Bill Clinton.

Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson declared "We believe we can make a difference in Haiti by promoting tourism, and developing local talent that can help lift this country, over time, back to being one of the top travel destinations in the Caribbean."



Over a thousand people worked in the construction of this hotel. With its 175 rooms, this hotel infrastructure rises to 4,322 the number of international-standard hotel rooms in Haiti.
