Haiti - Diplomacy : The Core Group welcomes the publication of the electoral decree

Sandra Honoré, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the members of the international community in Haiti represented in the "Core Group" (the Ambassadors of Brazil, Canada, France, Spain, the United States of America, the European Union and the Special Representative of the Organization of American States) welcome the publication of the electoral Decree in the official journal "Le Moniteur" on 2 March 2015.

The Core Group indicates in its statement that "The publication of the electoral Decree constitutes an important step in the launch of the electoral process. The 'Core Group' commends the Provisional Electoral Council and all stakeholders who have contributed to a consultative and inclusive process. It is now incumbent upon the political actors to reach agreement on an electoral calendar that will allow for the holding of well-conducted presidential, legislative, municipal and local elections that will provide the Haitian people the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to chose their representatives.

While emphasizing the importance of continuing the dialogue process among all stakeholders to reinforce mutual confidence, the members of the "Core Group" reiterate their support to the Government and people of Haiti for a fair, transparent and inclusive electoral process.
