Haiti - Diplomacy : Positive bilateral meeting in Jimani

Friday morning, the Chancellor Duly Brutus accompanied among others by Lener Renaud, Minister of Defense, Ariel Henry, Minister of the Interior and Local Authorities and Godson Orélus, Director of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) met his Dominican counterpart Andrés Navarro who was accompanied by the Dominican Ambassador in Haiti, Rubén Silié, the Lieutenant General Máximo Muñoz Delgado, Minister of Defence and of General Manuel Castro Castillo, head of the Dominican National Police and the General and Head of the army Jose Eugenio Matos de La Cruz.

The bilateral meeting was held in Jimani at headquarters of CESFRONT (Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Fronteriza Terrestre) in a climate of mutual respect.

At a joint press conference after the meeting, the Chancellor Navarros speaking of the agreements, announced that the Haitian Government is committed to ensuring the safety of the Dominican diplomatic missions in Haiti and that similar measures will be taken by the Dominican government with diplomatic missions of Haiti in the Dominican Republic.

To this end, the Chancellor Navarro announced that he will meet Sunday with Ambassador Rubén Silié and the 5 Dominican consuls in Haiti to take steps to reopen diplomatic missions in Haiti next week. Missions which had been temporarily closed following the attack of several consulates by protesters, including in Anse-à-Pitre and Pétion-ville.

The two delegations also agreed to take security measures for the transport of goods and people between the two countries. Haiti is committed to strengthen the documentation process of Haitians, wishing to qualify for the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigner (PNRE) implemented in the Dominican Republic.

As part of the agreements, it was also agreed to strengthen: relations between the police forces of the two countries and issues of border management and coordination mechanism between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs. The two countries agreed to resume on March 27 the negotiation process within the Joint Bilateral Commission and return to the agenda of development of the two peoples. Finally, the two countries are committed to maintaining a peaceful environment, which will be promoted by both governments in their respective country.
