"Bad start for the electoral adventure" dixit Mirlande Manigat

In a note of reflections, Mirlande Manigat of the Gathering of National Progressive Democrats (RDNP) explains that "The conditions seem in place for these elections do not take place. That we no mistake, my words do not express pessimism even less fatalism. I do not feel authorized to say that the elections will not take place. I do not have a crystal ball revealing truths, and I'm not in the secret of decision makers in the field, Haitian and foreign. What I understand from all parameters currently available and disclosed as probabilities is that thaere is a bad start for the electoral adventure, and if it is deployed, it will not bring any solution to our problems. It suffices to perform a step back to realize that past consultations since 1987, instead of solving the difficulties of the moment, have only hammer a little more in the country in unprecedented crisis with cumulative effects."

Yet no official candidates to MOPOD

The "People's Patriotic Movement Dessalinien" (MOPOD) is discussing the organization of its primary. According to Jean Andre Victor, the Platform has not received any application even if the former Senator Samuel Madistin and Mirlande Manigat of the Gathering of National Progressive Democrats (RDNP), ave already expressed their intention to be candidates.

Towards a European electoral observation mission

A delegation of the European Union composed of Caroline Monmarchon, Ana Gordon and three experts in charge of electoral matters, logistics and security will conduct an exploratory mission to Haiti from 20 to 24 April to assess the opportunity to deploy an electoral observation mission for the next presidential, parliamentary and local elections.

Equipment donation

As part of its support to the Haitian government, the United Nations Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) donated to various Departmental Electoral Offices (BED) of the country, several equipment and furniture including a 11 kW generator. Claudel Saintilien, President of BED of Gonaïves, expressed his gratitude and said that this donation will be their very useful for the achievement of next elections.
