Me Jacquenet Oxilus explained "This workshop aims to sensitize all stakeholders, ie, deans, first instance judges, the Government Commissioners, substitutes of the Government Commissioner, justices of the peace, deputy judges of Peace and the police in general, on the application of the Law of May 6, 1927 on the immediate appearance procedure in Correctional in case of violation or offense. [...] This law will allow us to fight against prolonged pretrial detention, that is to say when a person has committed an offense and is apprehended by the police, it will be referred to the judicial authorities quickly it can be judged on the same day. [...] The fundamental goal we are pursuing is to have in a year or two 'Zero prolonged pretrial detention' throughout the territory [...] That is why, we start the reactivation of permanences at police stations, Peace courts and Procuratorates, to allow a population to have rapid access to justice. Now, a judge of Peace and a clerk will be affected to the police stations of the country." Following this assizes, all the permanences have been reactivated in Petit-Goâve.
