During the XII General Assembly of the "Regional Conference of Rectors, Presidents and Directors of University institutions of the Caribbean" (CORPUCA) to be held from May 9 to 11 in Havana (Cuba). Some 15 rectors of university institutions from Haiti, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and the West Indies and French Guiana are expected.

The XII General Assembly, bringing together some 30 personalities from ten countries, will impel including the establishment of an Inter-University Chair for Caribbean Studies, awaited in the region.

Pr. Gustavo José Cobreiro Suarez, Rector of the University of Havana, declared "This General Assembly will be one of a significant strengthening of the Conference, new members, new projects, better visibility and greater recognition, strengthened relationships with French universities and the Americas."

On the agenda include among others :

• The signing of a cooperation agreement between the French Alliance in Cuba and the AUF in the presence of the President of the French Republic François Hollande, for the improvement in French of 1,000 Cuban teachers;

• The signature in the presence of the French President, of a framework cooperation agreement between the French Conference of University Presidents (CPU) and CORPUCA, aimed at strengthening training and research between theCaribbean and French universities ;

• The accession of new universities, including Cuban, to the CORPUCA.

This General Assembly will also proceed to a new election of instances currently led by Pr. Jacky Lumarque, Rector of Quisqueya University and President of the CORPUCA since 2011.

Founded in 2001 with the support of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), the CORPUCA constitutes a forum for exchange, dialogue and initiative between university officials of its network. The CORPUCA currently has 13 member universities of Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and the French departments of America. Regionally, the Conference aims to strengthen between its members, the cooperation in academic training and research. It encourages, inspires and guides partnerships in this common space.
