Haiti - Training : The DR will help Haiti in mobile technical training

The Dominican Republic will help Haiti to extend the reach of the mobile technical training, this is what declared Marina Gourgue Secretary of State for Vocational Training of Haiti and Rafael Ovalles, Director of the National Training Institute technical and professional Dominican (INFOTEP) that have announced a collaboration between INFOTEP and the National Institute of Professional Training of Haiti (INFP) for the implementation of mobile classrooms for technical courses. A memorandum of agreement on cooperation between the two institutions will be signed shortly relating to this cooperation.

The two officials hope that the development of mobile classrooms program will have a significant impact in Haiti, which has 189 centers of technical education, 17 public, 22 subsidized and 150 private, according to data provided by Ms. Gourgue.

Recall that at present, the Dominican Republic has 35 mobile units distributed in communities distant from centers of fixed formations. Since 1999, when the system started operating, about 25,000 people living in poverty have received technical training.

Besides being interested in the mobile classrooms, Haiti is also motivated to be part of the Network of Technical and Vocational Training Institutions (with scope in Central America and the Caribbean), which is currently coordinated by the INFOTEP.

Note that Ms. Gourgue was at the head of a Haitian delegation to define the implementation and modalities of the project. The delegation was composed among others of Mervil Guillaunette, Director of the INFP, Patricia Allen, Director of the Office of the Secretary of State for Vocational Training and several other executives.
