Haiti - Justice : Installation of 9 members of the second Council of CSPJ
Thursday at the premises of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), the President Michel Martelly, proceeded with the installation of the 9 members of the second Council of CSPJ.

In the presence of Pierre Richard Casimir, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Mr. Jules Cantave, President of CSPJ, Andris Riché, President of the Senate, members of the Provisional Electoral Council, representatives of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United Nations, representatives of public and private universities, deans and judges of Courts of Appeal and First Instance Courts, the Head of State stressed the interest given for the creation of a strong judicial institution, from its first moments to the Presidency "The judiciary is the convergence of all powers. The stability and consolidation of democracy go through the strengthening of social justice and require a strong judiciary, able to develop legal structure free from all influences other than those of legality and law."

In his speech, he recalled that the work of his administration was mostly to build a modern State in which all citizens can participate to build a common future based on transparency, justice and democracy "In the performance of this high office that is devoted to you, I therefore expect from you sound decisions that ensure stability, peace and social cohesion, but above fair judicial decisions that deliver justice to whom justice is due. You must rise above political differences and partisan. The independence and impartiality imposed by your oath certainly will guide your actions in justice."



For his part, the President of CSPJ, also President of the Court of Cassation while acknowledging the good will of the Head of State "who was able willingly encourage and facilitate the installation of the Superior Council of the Judiciary" , gave a public tribute and deserved, especially to the government, to the Haitian human rights organizations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Minustah, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and finally to the magistrates.

Me Cantave also made an inventory of the institution and emphasized its modernization prospects for its full effectiveness, drawing attention to the responsibility of each player in the sector. At this level, he promised that the institution remake the image of justice and will restore to judges repute. "An annual report will be presented soon," he concluded.
