Haiti - Security : Dominican soldiers and the Minustah seeking the two M16 stolen

Wednesday, Colonel Puro de la Cruz, a spokesman of the Dominican Army, said that the Haitian authorities cooperated in the investigation on the theft Tuesday, of two M16 military weapons by a group of at least 7 Haitians.

Recall that on Tuesday morning, a group of Haitian individuals claiming an information request on the National Plan for the Regularization of foreigners, threatened with homemade handguns two Dominican soldiers on duty at the outpost located in El Dique (border area of Pedernales) before seize their service weapons, two M16 assault rifles before fleeing.

The spokesman of the army said that the United Nations Mission, the Minustah, was also working in the field to try to locate the perpetrators of the theft and recover these weapons. We must remember that for Haiti, just days before the first round of legislative elections, the circulation of these two M16 seriously worries the authorities.

The Command of the Dominican Army, commissioned for the investigation the General Domingo Medina Mendez, of the Fifth Brigade and Colonel Víctor Mercedes, Director of Intelligence (G2), which are currently at the scene.

In a note of the army the term "stolen" is used, however, this same note confirms that one of the soldiers stripped of his weapon, is under arrest for questioning.
