Haiti - Justice : Electoral Offences, zero tolerance
"Zewo tolerans" to authors and co-authors of violations of the electoral law, duty of neutrality and impartiality, is the message sent Wednesday by Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Minister of Justice during an important meeting with all Government Commissioners, of 18 first instance courts.

The Minister invited the parquetiers to use particular the Law of May 6, 1927 on the immediate appearance at correctional, to deal expeditiously the case that will be transmitted to them during the electoral process.

Pierre-Richard Casimir also urged the Government Commissioners to pass formal instructions to Peace judges who, as officers of the judicial police are under their control for inter alia ask them to make themselves available for the electoral day , to draw up the minutes in all cases where they are required and to not act in favor of anyone.

After the meeting, the present Commissioners confirmed that significant steps have been taken in their respective jurisdictions and that they will strengthen them in the light of the new guidelines issued by the Minister.

In reputed red areas, the police presence has been strengthened, illegal weapons were seized and arrests made.
