Haiti - Politic : Official Funeral of Henri Bazin
On Tuesday, the official funeral of Monsieur Henri Bazin, former Minister of Economy and Finance were sung in the church St-Pierre of Pétion-ville. The body was buried at Memorial Park. Many speakers praised the great reformer and Wilson Laleau, the Minister of Finance and Economy and friend of Henri Bazin, delivered the funeral oration.

Excerpts from the Funeral Oration :

« [...] On behalf of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Michel Joseph Martelly, On behalf of Prime Minister Evans Paul and his entire government and on my own behalf, I offer the sincere condolences of the administration to the family, loved ones and friends of Dr. Henri Bazin [...]

[...] Discreet man, I imagine how it must feel upset now, lying in his coffin, him, who despite all the authority that provides him its great culture, has always lived simply by refusing to put forward . Everyone will recognize, the various speakers who have succeeded at the desk repeated, Henri Bazin was a man who lived as a Stoic who believed that his role was to mobilize all the means at its disposal to contribute to the advancement of the people around him to the ideal of the just large city [...]

[...] non simulated regrets of members of the private sector, condolence messages on social networks, reveal a remarkable personality who lamented with some bitterness at what he thought was the greatest risk for our country, that is to say the inability increasingly large of people to form a common project and to carry it out. He castigated the fact that incivility quarrelsome and vindictive cynicism continue to serve as background to the policy in the country.

Henri Bazin will pass to posterity. It will not be because of his origins or social status. It will not because of the multiple and diverse positions he held during his career. It is true that he managed the coup of force to be loved, what to say, to be both admired and respected by all the people who knew him. Praise, whether from members of his family, his close and distant collaborators, of his friends, are unanimous: Henri Bazin is a Bonus Vir. The country will long remember him for the quality of the man he was, for the way he lived his life.

[...] Henry Bazin, the 174th Minister of Economy and Finance that the country has seen was like a beacon in this Ministry. This Reformers has not skimped on its efforts when he arrived at the Ministry of Economy and Finance in March 2004, to a turning point for the Haitian public finances, to launch major reform projects. He set up the inaugural reforms that changed sustainably the way to manage the finances of the Republic. He has to his credit:

The creation of the body of Public Accountants;
The creation of the General Inspectorate of Finance;
The Creation of the Unit for the Fight against Corruption (ULCC);
The Creation of the National Commission for Public Procurement (CNMP)
The Reformation and restoration of the National School of Financial Administration (ENAF), an entity which contributes to the training of executives to supply the public finance management system.

Its institutional and professional life is filled with success. The creation of the Haitian Association of Economists (AHE) is one of his best works with other colleagues. He was elected president of the latter twice. Teacher at heart, he has taught at several universities in the country with a passion to provide young people the taste for knowledge and a job well done.

[...] Those who knew him like me pay tribute to him for his honesty. I have reason to believe that Henry Bazin will remain an icon for future generations. This man of great quality of heart has not only left a grieving family but also collaborators, friends, and a nation conscious of what his absence will create as empty.

[...] Henry Bazin wore Haiti in his works, in his daily life but especially his life as a man.

This is to honor and perpetuate his memory that the Martelly-Paul administration through the Ministry of Economy and Finance will create a scholarship to reward research and the best productions on Haitian Economy each year.

Henry defended that the success would come more in the conquest of new markets than in the blind border protection if we want to promote employment. He recommends us to build the foundation of our competitiveness. This is the main purpose of his latest book. It is in this sense that we are challenged and we invite the private sector, the university to consider with the public sector the establishment of the National Competitiveness Council, able to transcend political divisions in order to propose to the nation, an economic reform program that make sense and allow our country to do this qualitative leap, that is to say, to do the policy of its economy, to play with dignity and responsibility his role in the concert of nations.

Reform, by challenging misconceptions and assuming the pedagogy of reform, it is to this that Henri invites every statesman, every manager, at his level, in the conduct of the destiny of our country.

Henry made his exit scene but continues to inspire us!
To the family of Dr. Henry Bazin, my condolences!
To his colleagues, his friends good luck!
Henry, the country recognizes your kindness and your generosity of spirit!
May the earth rest lightly on you !!!!
Good eternal rest ! »
