The annulment of elections is not an option

While many parties and candidates call for the cancellation and resumption of vote of August 9, marred with fraud and violence, Ricardo Augustin Electoral Council stated that the annulment of the election was not an option. He said that currently the Provisional Electoral Council documented the acts of violence, fraud and vandalism, to strictly enforce the sanctions provided for in the Electoral Decree against those responsible for these acts.

Thursday, Moïse Jean Charles, presidential candidate under the banner "Piti Desalin" urged the Provisional Electoral Council to take action against the candidates instigators of disorder. One of the lawyers of the Platform called for the resumption of elections, wherever they have been disrupted, while denouncing the negligence of the CEP and the complicit indifference of some members of the police and judiciary face the acts of violence organized,according to him, by close of the power

Turnout still unknown

The tabulation of votes of the parliamentary elections of past Sunday, continues at the Tabulation Center (CTV) to the SONAPI. Observers from the Organization of American States (OAS) and the European Union are present to ensure smooth process. Several leaders of political parties have also went to the CTV since Sunday to attend the vote counting process. 

"The Electoral Commission expects to publish preliminary results on August 19," declard Matador Widmack, Director of CTV, reassuring that nobody can alter the results of the center because everything is perfectly controlled ... 

So far, the CEP is still not able [or don't want ?] communicate, even approximately, the turnout of voters.

Recommendation of the Young Bar

 Me Peter Reynold Délciné, Secretary General of the Young Bar of Port-au-Prince (JBPAP) estimated that the irregularities recorded during the elections are due to a lack of planning of the CEP. The JBPAP recommends that the Electoral Council, the cancellation of elections in areas where the violence took place, ballot stuffing and ransacking offices the voting day.

The extent of fraud threatens the election process...
