Haiti - Elections : The first ballot boxes and voting booth arrive in Haiti 27/10/2010 14:30:28
The Director General said that the CEP continued as planned the preparations for the elections despite of the cholera epidemic whose the provisional assessment reports 304 deaths and 4.774 infected and hospitalized (dated October 26, 2010). Ginette Cherubin, CEP member said "We will continue preparing for elections, it is our responsibility, it is for health authorities to decide on the cholera epidemic." The electoral campaign opened on October 15 continues to idle in areas affected by cholera. Jude Célestin, the candidate of INITE, temporarily suspended his campaign and called on candidates of his party to do the same to be at the service of populations affected by the epidemic. A decision which falls under the call launched by the candidate Michel Martelly last Saturday, which was the first to put the interests of the people above his own political interests. Let there be no mistake the decision of the candidate Célestine answered to imperatives other than humanitarian.
