Haiti - Literature : The writer Russell Banks at the 3rd Edition of the International Book Fair in Haiti
As part of the 3rd edition of the International Book Fair in Haiti (FILHA), organized by the National Directorate of the Book (DNL), which opened today until December 13, 2015 on Place Pétion at Champ de-Mars, the American writer Russell Banks author of international renown, arrived in Haiti Thursday, will participate in a series of cultural activities, according to the Bureau of Public Affairs of the Embassy of United States in Port-au-Prince.

This Friday, December 11th at 4:00 pm, Russell Banks will participate in a panel discussion at the Unesco Conference Room of Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL), located at # 143 Christophe Avenue. The conference will be moderated by Ms. Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis.

Saturday 12 in the Gardens of FOKAL from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm the American writer will be the guest of honor at the signing-sale of the book "Monsieur le Ministre... Jusqu’au bout de la patience" of Raoul Peck. This sale-signature will be the opportunity to meet the author Raoul Peck, the former Prime Minister Rony Smarth, author of the afterword, and Russell Banks, author of the preface of the first edition.

Sunday 13 Russell Banks will speak on Radio Espace FM (94.1 FM), in the show "Lecture et Compagnie" from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

Furthermore, under the initiative of the Embassy of the United States to promote the learning of the English language, Russel Banks will host a session of exchanges at English Conversation Club of the American Embassy and an advanced reading courses in English to Haitian-American Institute, (Champs de Mars).

Russell Banks residing in Miami (Florida) and Upstate (New York) with his wife, the poet Chase Twichell, is an internationally known writer for his 18th fiction novels, including "Continental Drift", "Rule of the Bone", "Book of Jamaica", and "Lost Memory of Skin". He also written six short story collections, most recently "A permanent member of the family". Two of his novels have been adapted to the cinema "The Sweet Hereafter" (Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival 1997) and "Affliction". He was a finalist for PEN/Faulkner Award and the Pulitzer. His work has received numerous awards including the Dos Passos Prize in 1985.
