Haiti - Security : 989 investigations of police officers in 2015 08/01/2016 09:05:38
The General Inspectorate of the National Police of Haiti (IGPNH), an organ of the National Police responsible for monitoring the behavior of the security force agents, has made a positive assessment of its operations for the year 2015, during which it opened 989 investigations which resulted among others in 41 revocations, 76 layoffs, 277 suspensions, 56 cases transferred to the public prosecutor. For the month of December, 84 investigations were initiated for offenses such as abuse of authority, assault, assault and violence, arbitrary arrest, embezzlement, drug trafficking... Ralph Stanley Jean Brice, General Chief Inspector and Head of IGPNH said the country "needs a police respectful of professional standards, which can validly fulfill its mission," promising for 2016 to continue working to perfecting the police force "the job is never completed [...] we ask the police to be more demanding towards themselves and focus on their mission to protect the lives and property of the population." Regarding the slippages of the Brigade of Operation and Departmental Intervention (BOID) during the post-election protests https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-15935-icihaiti-flash-the-boid-will-no-longer-intervene-in-demonstrations.html , it was announced that awareness sessions and re-education on human rights, ethics and deontology have started for 211 officers of this unit, 100 of them have already taken part. Also training for police officers of different police stations in the metropolitan area on the attitudes and behavior of the police officers was organized.
