Haiti - FLASH : «It's not a choice I have, is a duty...» dixit Martelly

Thursday, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the socio-community complex of Wharf Jérémie in Cité Soleil, the President Martelly wanted to clarify its position on the conditions of his departure 7 February 2016.

Excerpt of the intervention of President Martelly :

"Faced with the situation in the country, every day we sit down to reflect to see how to bring a conclusion to the electoral crisis, it is necessary that the elections are held. The President Martelly is working to find a solution to the crisis before February 7 but I also tell you that a February 7 without a concrete proposal, would put the country in a situation that even the Constitution does not provide. What will it happen after February 7 ? There are many people who have confusion or fear but I want to tell you that we work for before February 7 we find a solution.

In case they try [the opposition] to drag us on time not to find a solution, I took the responsibility of inviting bodies, international institutions, it was me who had asked them to come to accompany us, because I do not agree that people who do not want an election take power without going to elections.

In this sense we seek a outcome to the crisis before February 7, if they last until February 7 without a solution, I tell you that these people who have a macabre plan to take hostage Haiti, as President of the Republic I can not let this plan work.

I ask the population to remain vigilant, to watch, I do not think there is a single position in the country that of people who do not want an election, I think there's another majority, that is silent, but who wants of elections and who understands that democracy is what we are asking for the elections to be made for a President replaces the President.

We will give time to the dialogue, to come with a way out of the crisis instead of going in more crisis.

But I tell you, there are people for their personal interests, that require crisis, there are many people who want February 7 arrives without I I know where to go, so that they can benefit themselves.

I remind you that Article 136 of the Constitution demand that the President ensures the continuity of the State and ensure the smooth running of the institutions, it is not a choice I have, is a duty that I have, the Constitution asks it I will respect it.

I can not be President of the Republic and in the morning of February 7, leaving the country in uncertainty, it will not happen like that. Uncertainty not. Consensus yes. Dialogue yes [...]"
