Haiti - Reconstruction : New Japanese government assistance

The Japanese Embassy in Haiti is pleased to announce that as part of Japan's Economic Cooperation with Haiti, the Chargé d'Affaires Mr. Kentaro MinamiI, conducted on Thursday, November 11, 2010, the signing of two (2) donation-contracts under its "Assistance to Micro-Local Projects contributing to human security (APL)" with NGOs and nonprofit organizations. They are:

1 - Hospital Notre-Dame of Petit-Goave for implementing " Rehabilitation Project and Facilities at the Hospital Notre-Dame of the town of Petit-Goâve " for a amount of $135.213. The financing of this project focuses on different aspects of the current needs of the hospital, it includes in particular:

- Complete reconstruction of the surgical department of the hospital;

- The expansion of the mortuary;

- The purchase of a device for ultrasound imaging service;

2- The Haitian Oecumenical Center of Intervention in Mediums Rural and Urbain (COHIMRU) for the execution of the "Project of construction and equipment of the coffee processing center in Jérémie" for an amount of $104.454. Through this project, COHIMRU, intends to enhance the production of coffee from the Grand Anse and at the same time, increase the level of income for the coffee producers in the region by establishing a center for final processing of coffee in the Southern Region. The nature of this project consists to:

- The construction of the final coffee treatment plant;

- The complete installation of necessary equipment.

These projects fall respectively in the areas of health and basic infrastructure are among the main sectors of intervention of the Japanese cooperation in Haiti.

Japan continues to support efforts to improve living conditions of the base population through the Donation Program, which provides flexible financial support to NGOs and nonprofit organizations to help to implement local development projects.
