Haiti - Elections : Demonstration for the release of INITE opponents

Several hundred people protested violently yesterday in front of the public prosecutor's department in Chalon, the first communal section of Miragoâne. The protesters, mostly supporters of the Party "Mobilisation pour le Progrès d'Haïti (MPH)" and "Ansanm Nou Fò" have demanded the release of 2 detainees arrested there four days (including a security agent of the Nippes Senator, Nènèl Cassis) for possessing of illegal weapons.

The demonstrators threw stones and bottles in the direction of the public prosecutor's department, alleging persecution and political maneuvering against the opposition parties. Angry supporters accused the authorities of wanting to neutralize those who oppose the party INITE.

By late afternoon, Vilmont Nerva, the dean of the trial court, in charge of this case, proceeded with the release of the 2 people. The seized weapons were handed over to Senator Cassis Nenella.
