Haiti - FLASH : Storms, floods, victims and damage, balance sheet #3
Because of the rain that fell on all departments of Haiti since 6 May of floods, many damage and fatalities have been reported. The situation is dramatic in several departments and several thousand families are affected.

The National Meteorological Centre (CNM) informs that the weather conditions are very disturbed at the Caribbean Basin since Monday morning due to two well marked talwegs one of which is located in altitude and the other in surface. Given of the wet air mass, Haiti suffered the combined action of this formation that can generate significant rainfall accumulations.

Situation in the country Balance #3 :

The road connecting Gros Morne and bassin bleuis damaged and very difficult traffic to Ti Croix and Chansolme, on the road linking Port-de-Paix to the Capital;

A hundred houses are flooded in Downtown Belle-Anse, mainly because of the flood of the river Guimby;

The rivers and dry ravines flooded in Jacmel, Marigot, Grand-Gosier flooded plantations and damaged access routes, including the road connecting Grand-Gosier to Belle-Anse and that of communal section "Colline des chaines" towards the downtown;

In the Lower Artibonite 126 houses are flooded in Blockhaus and Jeanton (St. Marc localities) and 12 others to La Croix-Perrise, Mapou and the first section of Estère;

In the Central Department, clogged drainage channels caused the overflow of water and the flooding of thirty houses in Hinche. Same situation to Saut-d’Eau where 11 houses were flooded and secondary roads for the most damaged;

The rivers Latombe, Grand Crochu, Fièvre, Citoyen and Artibonite came into spate to Savanette and downtown has been partially flooded;

3 people including a child had lost their lives in Savanette trying to cross the river Fer à Cheval) another person died in a ravine and a 5th person, a merchant native of Petit Fond drowned in trying to cross the Artibonite River aboard a small boat;

The river Lacahobe and that of Sousman, in Lascahobas, are flooded in the Central Plateau. Other partial flooding were recorded in the West, particularly in Cité Soleil,Pont-Rouge, in the village solidarité in the Port-au-Prince region;

The river Rouyonne came into flood and waters have affected and in many different places the streets of Léogâne and part of the National #2. Moreover, Sophie bridge in Cabaret suffered some damage and the road linking Cazale and the center of Cabaret, eroded by runoff was cut;

La Quinte River and and the drain belt of Biennac entered into flooded to the Gonaïves and neighborhoods of "Bois d’Orme" and "Anba Pwent" were flooded;

Many and heavy rain fell on the cities of Jérémie, Moron, Chambellan, Anse d’Hainault, Dame-Marie, Beaumont, Roseaux and Abricots. Floods hit several homes in Chamberlain and Les Irois where 73 homes were flooded, of devastated gardens and livestock swept away. Situation similar to Pestel (Cayemites Islands), 31 houses flooded and 3 destroyed;

At Anse d'Hainault, evacuation clogged channels have led to waters overflow on the banks of various rivers, which sometimes caused significant losses at the agricultural level in this region;

A landslide was reported in the 1st section of Burotte of the commune of Abricots nd the stretch of road linking the Anse Claire and Abricots is deteriorated considerably;

Rainfall of 6 and 7 may also have caused flooding and damage in Nippes. The situation remains precarious to Baradères, affected by rains from strong to moderate over two days. Rising water, partially flooded 2,000 houses in the city center and on 3 3 communal sections of Baradères while two other houses collapsed. Various plantations of maize and rice fields were devastated by the waters;

300 houses and various buildings were flooded in Petite Rivière de Nippes, 81 to Miragôane, 15 to Asile and 2 to Grand-Boucan. The rivers are in flood in Plaisance and to Fond des Nègres, where a landslide has been registered and the stretch of road linking Baradères to Petit-trou is damaged;

The Emergency Operations Center Departmental of Nippes has been activated. Local authorities and the departmental delegate proceed to relief, to the final assessment of damage and needs assessment;

In the South Department, 76 houses are partially flooded in Camp Perrin;

The drinking water system serving downtown and the RHE locality (3rd Section Tiby) is damaged, following a landslide;

To be reported also a landslide on the road between Tiby and Jonc Tiby in the South Department, inconvenient traffic;

Heavy rains on all communes of the South Department have caused floods in the Ravine du Sud, the Bradgoch River and River of Acul du Sud, in Arniquet and Chantal. Gullies Opac, Redoute, Glotine are all overwhelmed. Gardens were devastated and cattle washed away;

The road connecting Bananier and Jonc Champlois is cut at Bananier;

At the 5th communal section Mercy, Les Cayes, a house was destroyed and two others damaged;

3 homes destroyed in the 5th section Laroque of Cavaillon. In St. Louis du Sud, Aquin, Cavaillon, Torbeck, and Tiburon, rivers floods have caused losses in agriculture and local livestock.
