Haiti - Economy : Thousands of textile workers took to the streets 12/05/2016 10:25:58
Wednesday, thousands of textile workers, working in outsourcing manufactures of industrial estates of the metropolitan area, took to the streets, causing paralysis of activities in this sector.
The protesters were demanding a minimum daily wage of 500 gourdes and were very angry against the Superior Council of Salaries (CSS) whose they accused members of working against the interests of workers and do not consider the cost of living.
Recall that last minimum wage increase in the textile sector, dating back to May 1, 2015 was 6.7%, passing the daily wage of 225 to 240 gourdes for a day of 8 hours https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13758-haiti-economy-increase-of-minimum-wage-in-the-textile-sector.html what already at that time had provoked demonstrations https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11053-haiti-politic-minimum-wage-demonstration-this-may-1st.html
Recall that in late April 2015, the CSS had submitted its third report on the fixing of minimum wages by activity sector in the Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10972-haiti-economy-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-new-minimum-wage.html
