Haiti - Cholera Epidemic : Fidel Castro announces the sending of medical reinforcements
"Today's decision has been taken by the Party and Government to strengthen the Cuban medical brigade in Haiti, with 300 doctors, nurses and health technicians additional, bringing to over 1,200 our staff," said Castro in a reflection published Saturday in the Cuban press.
The cholera epidemic could affect more than 400,000 people, according to the UN.
Castro said "it is important to prevent the epidemic spread to other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean because, under current circumstances, it would cause tremendous damage to the nations of this hemisphere"
"It is important to seek effective and quick solutions to fight against this epidemic," he added.
