Haiti - Elections : Manigat and Martelly claim victory !
After the fraudulent elections of 28 November, after an application for annulment of the elections with 15 candidates, Mirlande Manigat and Michel Martelly ensure both have the victory...

Yesterday at a press conference, the candidate Mirlande Manigat said "I know and you know I am president of the country because it is the will of the people [...] I know and you know that I'm the president, because it is the will of the majority "...

Regarding her position on the many irregularities that occurred last Sunday, she explains, "The turmoil has been made because we were going to win." She stated that she will hold the application to annul the elections, in places where there were irregularities, and will propose that the vote is taken partially in areas where fraud and serious irregularities were recorded. About a possible second turn, the candidate says open to dialogue and alliances.

If Mirlande Manigat shows opening, for the candidate Michel Martelly, the tone is definitely firmer, he warns that we can not steal his "victory." Like Manigat Martelly denounces a plot to remove him from the race. He says that nothing can make it back and and promises to its partisans never to release them. The watchword of the party of Martelly (Repons Peyizan) is to maintain the mobilization in the street for better defending the popular vote [and partisan...].

It is far from statements by the candidate who said last August "I am not here to win the election, I'm here to change my country. I am perhaps the only candidate who is prepared to accept any verdict."

Today, the position and tone of Michel Martelly, are no longer the same. Dialogues and alliances are never mentioned in his statements where defeat is not considered. Mobilizer and "rebel" he said two days before the election, "If the people have no opportunity to make its voice heard by voting, it will make known its voice differently, whatever is the means [...] if the people must make the revolution to be made hear, it will do it by the revolution" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-1751-haiti-elections-michel-martelly-predicts-frauds-and-violence.html and it goes without saying that for him the people's voice relates exclusively to power.

According to many analysts and observers, and given the number of candidates in the race, it is unlikely that a candidate can win the first round. However, if the turnout is very low, the first round could thwart this low probability and surprises. The turnout remains the major unknown of this election, observers expect it to be low, given that a "large number" of voters seem to have not been able to vote. A low turnout might favor other candidates surprises.

Although since Sunday, the media focus mainly on the candidates, we must not forget that not enough candidates to win the presidency, it will also have to win with a turnout sufficient so that the new government is credible and legitimate in the eyes of the international community and national levels. Remember that legitimacy requires a voter turnout exceeding 40%.

Apart from these statements between star candidates, Jude Célstin who abstain from any statement, remains in the shadows, in ambush... If the voices, more and more numerous, [prematurely] predicting the failure of Celestine, one should not underestimate the opponent. The victory is not won only by the Presidential post, but also by control of both chambers (Deputies and Senators). If the INITE party wins control of both chambers (the right to form the next government) and lost the presidency, this would put the country [and its new president] in a situation unprecedented political, carrier of institutional instability.

One thing is certain, the next publication of results (which should be released on December 7, or perhaps before) will provoke strong protests. Hopefully they do not overflow social control.
