In his intervention, the Haitian Chancellor reported on the progress of the electoral process until the signing, inCouncil of Ministers on 19 July 2016, of the Order convoking the people in its elections for the election of President and renew one third of the Senate according to the timetable established by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18077-haiti-flash-privert-convene-the-people-in-elections.html

The OAS Permanent Council welcomed the decision of the Head of State of Haiti to convene the people in its elections on October 9, 2016 to implement the first round of presidential elections. In addition, he called for support of the executive organs of the OAS to the Haitian Government in the context of the organization of elections.

The Haitian Chancellor made it clear that Haiti did not come to ask for money to carry out its elections opening a chapter on Haiti's sovereignty "[...] What is a people without sovereignty ? What is a Nation without its identity, without its history ? Who we are today after more than two centuries of independence, if we can not achieve the elections in a free and sovereign manner ? What's remains of this independence-won against colonialism of all the great powers of the 19th century, if we can not allow our people to perform the act of sovereignty by excellence through elections ?

That is why my dear friends of the Americas, Haiti does not comes to beg money to realize their elections, we want to break this practice that torpedo our sovereignty.

Despite our limited resources, we want to take over our people's fate, we will not refuse help and solidarity, but we want to negotiate independently with our partners and friends.

And in this sense, dear friends of Haiti, my dear friends, today the best way to support us is to help us finalize by ourself our elections. Your solidarity is required.

These elections are for us the cornerstone for the reconstruction of our sovereignty ransacked by andependence too long nurtured towards certain country.

We need your support and we know we can rely on you to support us in this ongoing electoral process."
